C Software Engineer - Network ASICs
Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year
Requirements:- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with Ethernet and IP-based protocols, including dynamic routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
- Ability to work with industry standards such as IETF RFCs and IEEE specifications, understand standard requirements, and implement the described behavior and messaging in C code
- Proficiency in C programming
- Experience developing software for Linux operating systems, with strong Linux user skills
- Experience developing and maintaining software operating systems in datacentre or telecom environments
- Ability to work with a large codebase, navigate it efficiently, and interpret code quickly
- Experience debugging complex, multithreaded software
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Hands-on experience with microchip vendor SDKs and driver development for ASICs, CPLDs, or FPGAs
- Understanding of Linux kernel networking architecture
- Hands-on experience with I2C, SMBus/PMBus interfaces, and ACPI
- Experience with network protocols such as BGP, OSPF, STP, MPLS, and LDP
- Experience developing multithreaded Linux applications
- Experience developing Linux services, such as daemons
- Experience interpreting device datasheets and understanding common onboard hardware component interconnection principles
- Experience with distributed systems and/or cloud computing systems
- Familiarity with virtualisation and containerisation technologies such as KVM/QEMU, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Design and develop the networking OS that drives our data centre switches and routers, specifically the component of the NOS that programs the network ASIC
- Fix bugs in the software within our area of responsibility and improve product performance
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components
- Work with control plane engineers to support provisioning of control plane information into the chip
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of best practices
- Help troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise in the networking operating system
- Support the Quality Control team in automated test development to ensure the quality and reliability of the networking software
- Stay up to date with the latest networking trends and technologies, and incorporate them into our software design

Our client is developing the network OS that powers switches and routers designed and manufactured by the company. Their networking solutions, including the NOS, are deployed in on-premise cloud data centre environments for enterprise and MSDC customers. We are looking for software engineers with solid packet networking experience to join our team and work on software design and development of OS components that interact directly with hardware. The role can be remote in other countries, and we can sponsor work permits in the UAE.
