Overview
In a nutshell
Wikifarmer is on a mission to empower farmers worldwide, by providing access to knowledge and fair, open markets. We’re building tech that has an impact on our users and so, we’re looking for a Backend Engineer who thrives in dynamic, collaborative environments. As we scale our platform and transition toward a microservices architecture, you’ll help shape the backend systems and infrastructure that power everything we do.
From writing clean Laravel code to managing deployments on AWS and experimenting with AI tools that boost productivity, this role is all about high ownership, practical problem-solving, and building real systems that scale. If you’re excited to work across the stack, move fast, and make an impact, we’d love to meet you.
What you’ll be doing
Design, build, and maintain robust backend services using PHP and Laravel, with a focus on clean, testable, and scalable code
Contribute to our platform’s evolution as we break down the monolith and move toward a microservices architecture
Take ownership of the DevOps lifecycle by shipping confidently using Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS
Monitor, debug, and optimize using logs and metrics to ensure reliability and catch issues before they escalate
Collaborate daily with frontend developers, PMs, and other stakeholders to deliver features that matter
Document your work clearly and share knowledge to help others stay aligned and move fast
Use AI tools and LLMs to speed up development, automate internal workflows, or explore ways to build smarter
Communicate clearly and adapt quickly in a fast-moving, agile environment that values transparency and iteration
What you’ll bring to the table
Solid experience building and maintaining Laravel (PHP) applications in production, secure, performant, and built to scale
Confidence with DevOps tooling – you’ve worked with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS, and you’re comfortable owning your code in production
Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., MariaDB, MySQL), and writing clean, efficient SQL for real-world use cases
A sense of ownership and responsibility – you don’t just commit code, you see it through: deployed, monitored, and maintained
A startup-ready mindset: adaptable, proactive, and comfortable prioritizing and shifting gears when things change
Great communication – you know how to keep teams in sync, especially in async or remote-first environments
A collaborative attitude: you enjoy solving problems together with designers, engineers, and product teammates
Curiosity for AI: you’re experimenting with LLMs, code assistants, or exploring how they can enhance productivity
Bonus points for experience with Python, microservices, observability tools, or open-source contributions that show initiative
What we can offer:
A competitive fixed salary of €55-70k based on experience
Private medical insurance for you and your family
24 days of annual leave (plus national holidays)
A collaborative team that values initiative, innovation, and ownership
Real impact – your work will directly affect customer success and operational excellence
